The central question of Ken Auletta’s Hollywood Ending: Harvey Weinstein and the Culture of Silence, to my mind, is the one posed by the subject line above: How did he manage to get away with it for so long? It’s the question I hoped to answer, at least in part,
I became fascinated with David Warner in 1966 when he starred in the movie “Morgan” which also featured a gorilla suit and a young Vanessa Redgrave. I loved that movie and I was never disappointed in a performance by him - good guy, bad guy, old guy - in the five plus decades since. He will be missed.
Vengeance isn't perfect for me. Bj Novak is who he is, and it's a little too intellectualized and talky, and the structure of the mystery could be better done and the brother could get more screentime but...I really loved it. The meta mystery works, the emotional core works, and even the pontifications are anywhere from clever to genuinely profound. It would have made a fantastic novel and it's one of the 5 best movies I've seen this year...on your recommendation!
