I agree with other comments that this story (the incredible original Herbert series, especially first 4 books) warrants an epic GoT-style limited series production. Hopefully this will at least be similar to Peter Jackson’s Tolkien masterpiece, which really was a similar world/mythology undertaking.

BUT, it’s unforgivable to release half the first book and leave the audience hanging (not even really a cliff hanger it seems … I haven’t seen yet), without a PLAN for the second part. Granted, for Lord of the Rings, Jackson had his $*it together and the dollars to fund it up front mostly, so they had an aggressive release schedule to start. For Dune, even if the studio green light comes early, these are busy, in-demand actors, so even with a green light it’s not going to be the 1-2 years we got LoR, GoT seasons and recent Star Wars. But hopefully it’s not like Blade Ruuner’s 35 years!

Though immensely popular, Dune did not have the wider appeal Hobbit book to build off, which was not only an easier read, but a wider net of built in audience. So I can somewhat understand the reluctance. I’m looking forward to it though. Thanks for the review :-)

Dune would worked better as a limited series, along the lines of GOT, so that the political intrigue, setting (i.e. spice enables faster than light space travel) and characters can be more fully explored.
